The Government is back...
govt:
If you followed thegovernment.tumblr.com, you can now refollow govt.tumblr.com. I’ve moved in a lot of the old stuff (not all of it). That’s how The Government rolls. Sometimes I will keep the same old ideas, sometimes I’ll just ignore things I’m not as proud of, and other times, I’m just too lazy or inept to keep it up to date.
Take it or leave it.
The Government has moved. Please...

Missing
It’s been a long transition. In the meantime, I seem to have misplaced a box in the move. I think it just had tupperware in it… and a laptop. Don’t worry. It’s probably nothing. I think I just had pictures from last year’s administration picnic. You should see the one of Conde and Ruth Bader Ginsburg playing tetherball. Hot girl on girl action!
Anyway, if...

Blackbird: African American web browser →
(via bowlingalleylawyer)
A web browser for African Americans? Interesting how everyone got all up on my case about “separate but equal” but then they go and do it themselves anyway.
I am curious to know what a black browser would be, though… Does it talk while you’re trying to watch YouTube videos?

How’s everyone feeling about the flouride? Think anyone would mind if we added some more stuff to the water? Like Ritalin?
It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We...
– Rahm Emanuel, Barak Obama’s Chief of Staff
This is kind of frightening. I guess Rahm enjoyed his time in the Israeli Defense Forces so much that he thought their model of compulsion/indoctrination would work well in America too.

The Government doesn't consider that to be a terrorist activity. Substituting numbers for letters to disguise certain words, however, is a major red flag... Almost as bad as eating trans fats.

We’re a positive and optimistic family.
Important Notice: DUE TO RECENT BUDGET CUTS, AND THE RISING COST OF ELECTRICITY, GAS AND OIL, THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE Sincerely, The Government

I’m sick of the word “wiretapping”. What wires? Everyone’s wireless! And thank goodness for that.
I heart WiFi.
You’ve apparently not been in a phone room in the basement of a building and seen the elaborate device the FBI/whomever puts on to tap a residential line.
I have a pool table in my basement. What you’re describing is my...

I just saw gas for $3.04 a gallon! That’s madness. Prices are getting low enough that we can all have gasoline fights again. Hazaah!
There’s a few stations near my apartment for $2.99. I attempted to get gas at them, but the lines extended out onto main roads/highways. Craziness.
It’s been between $2.82 and $2.89 near here...

Government expansion

jeffmiller quoted Ilya Somin:
“I fear that the conjunction of an Obama victory, a strongly Democratic Congress, and a major economic crisis will produce a massive and difficult to reverse expansion of government.”
I would be more worried about this under McCain. This might seem counter-intuitive, but let me explain.
First, a massive and difficult to reverse expansion...
Dear FedEx and UPS
I just wanted to take some time to say thanks for giving each of your companies relatively ambiguous government-sounding names. With words like “Federal” and “United”, some people might think that you are actually related to the government. And lets face it… You two are way better at delivering shit than I am.
I mean United Parcel Service?! That’s a stroke...

I hate those. Try not to let it get you down.
Whenver I’m feeling blue, I try to remember that the same government that is overseeing the war and the economy is also in charge of the safety of your food and drugs and drinking water. Have a nice night.

The truth is, dealing with large private industry can be at least as frustrating as dealing with the government. The government can be corrupted—but nowhere near as easily as private industry. The government can be an incompetent, blundering giant, but we can find a few of those in private industry as well. The government has no monopoly on incompetence.
